Our fundamental belief is that all students are entitled to an individually tailored and holistic English education that is broad and balanced and prepares them for the next stage of their education, employment or training. This is complemented by the local Somaliland curriculum, in which Arabic, Islamic and Somali are taught, but with an international twist to ensure our international meet national objectives. We encourage students to sit exams as soon as they are ready, and offer a range of qualifications and extra-curricular enrichment to provide a rounded learning experience.
At Key Stage 1 & 2, we place a great emphasis on giving all students a firm grounding in the core subject areas of English (reading and writing) and maths. In addition to English and maths, students have lessons in science, geography (social studies), Arabic, Somali, Islamic, art and P.E.
At Key Stage 3, we place great emphasis on continuing to build a firm grounding in the core subject areas of English, maths and science. Students start their GCSEs at the end of KS3, this enables us to provide students with a tailored curriculum to meet their needs. As a unique feature of our curriculum, we encourage pupils to sit exams when they are ready for them and many will finish before Year 11. Those that achieve high grades then have the opportunity to pursue additional courses or higher study in a range of subjects.
At Key Stage 4, we provide an even more personalised curriculum which is geared towards students’ individual aptitudes and skills. We are the only school in Somaliland that offers students the opportunity to do ‘normal’ Ofqual regulated GCSEs and A Levels (as we are not limited to international versions). The curriculum in each pathway consists of the core subjects and additionally selected subjects to allow pupils to progress on to Key Stage 5.
We offer GCSEs in the following subjects:
English Language
English Literature
Mathematics
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Business Studies
Geography
Citizenship
The primary aim of our Sixth Form is to prepare our pupils for the transition from school to university. A Levels available each year are provided to meet the local demand.
Our curriculum is reviewed annually to ensure it meets the needs of our pupils
