Our Curriculum
We believe every student is entitled to an individually tailored, broad and balanced British education that prepares them for the next stage of education, employment or training. Alongside it we teach Arabic, Islamic Studies and Somali from the Somaliland curriculum, so that our students meet national objectives as well as international ones. Students sit exams as soon as they are ready, and we offer a range of qualifications and extra-curricular enrichment to give them a rounded education.

Early Years (Nursery and Reception)
Our youngest children start in Nursery and Reception at Jigjiga Yar Primary School and Star School.

Key Stages 1 and 2 (Years 1 to 6)
We give every pupil a firm grounding in the core subjects of English (reading and writing) and maths. Pupils also have lessons in science, geography (social studies), Arabic, Somali, Islamic Studies, art and P.E. Taught at Jigjiga Yar Primary School, Star School and New Hargeisa School.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9)
We continue to build a firm grounding in English, maths and science. Students begin their GCSE courses in Year 9, which lets us tailor the curriculum to each student. We encourage students to sit exams when they are ready, and many finish before Year 11. Those who achieve high grades can then take additional courses or move on to higher study. Taught at Star School and Thamesbridge School, and at New Hargeisa School for Years 7 and 8.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11): Level 2
The curriculum becomes more personalised, shaped around each student's aptitudes and skills. Each pathway combines the core subjects with chosen options and prepares students for Sixth Form. BIC is the only school in Somaliland able to offer UK GCSEs and A Levels regulated by Ofqual, alongside International GCSEs. In 2025-26, 100% of students achieved grades 9 to 4, up from 94% in 2024-25. Taught at Thamesbridge School, and at Star School for Year 10.
GCSE: Mathematics, Business Studies
International GCSE: English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Geography, Citizenship, Religious Education, Arabic.

Sixth Form (age 16+): Level 3
Our Sixth Form, at Thamesbridge School, prepares students for the move from school to university. It is open to students aged 16+, including adult learners in our adult stream. Students take A Levels and other Level 3 courses over two years, or in one year on our fast track. The A Levels offered each year reflect local demand.

Level 4–5
We are developing Level 4–5 courses for students who want to continue their studies with us after Sixth Form. Details will be published here when they are confirmed.
We review our curriculum every year to make sure it meets our students' needs.

School hours and contact
The school day runs from 7:00am to 12:30pm. Fast-track sixth formers attend from 7:00am to 3:00pm, six days a week. For more information about the curriculum, email admin@britishintcollege.com.
